Surgery takes place at the Centre Laser Victor Hugo, 27 bis avenue Victor Hugo, Paris 16th. It is an outpatient procedure: you go home the same day. Dr Gozlan performs the technique selected at the preoperative assessment.
Before you come
- contact lenses removed according to the timing given at the assessment;
- no make-up, cream around the eyes or perfume on the day;
- a light meal is fine; take your usual medication as normal unless told otherwise;
- come with someone: you will not be able to drive home;
- bring sunglasses and wear comfortable clothes.
How it goes
- Welcome and checks. Dr Gozlan checks your identity, the assessment measurements and the treatment planned for each eye.
- Preparation. Local surface anaesthesia, with no injection or general anaesthesia. You stay awake.
- At the laser. Lying down, you look at a light; a small speculum keeps the eyelids open. In LASIK, the femtosecond laser creates the flap and the excimer laser then reshapes the cornea; in PRK, the epithelium is removed and the excimer laser works on the surface. The laser itself works for a few seconds to a few tens of seconds per eye.
- End of the procedure. A few minutes of rest before leaving. Allow about a quarter of an hour in the room for both eyes, and a few hours on site in total.
What you feel
The procedure is not painful; you may feel pressure or see a bright light. Vision is blurred just afterwards. Discomfort or stinging is common during the first hours, especially after PRK.
Leaving
You leave with someone, with Dr Gozlan's written instructions. Plan to rest for the rest of the day. If you come from another city or from abroad, Dr Gozlan tells you at the assessment how long to plan to stay.
